South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has clinched an order to build four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The shipbuilder received newbuilding orders from a US shipowner, SHI said in a regulatory filing without revealing further details.
The shipbuilding deal is worth around KRW 870.4 billion (USD 774.9 million) and it would see Samsung Heavy deliver the new vessels by the end of September 2022.
With the latest contract, the shipbuilder has secured six LNG orders with a value of USD 1.1 billion so far in 2019, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Samsung Heavy earlier informed that its 2019 orderbook tagret was set at USD 7.8 billion, up 24 percent over last year’s orders amid a strong appetite in the newbuilding market all over the world, particularly for LNG ships and containerships.
